NHL 11 demo released Posted by AndyP on 08/17 at 13:24 in Hockey
EA Sports have released the demo of NHL 11 via Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Here are the details :

EA Sports NHL 11 demo is now available on Xbox LIVE and the PLAYSTATION Network. Powered by a revolutionary real-time physics engine, the franchise that has won 22 sports game of the year awards over the past three years will showcase two game modes in the demo: Battle for the Cup and the all-new Hockey Ultimate Team.

Battle for the Cup:

In Battle for the Cup, players will experience all the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup™ Championship between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The mode features an all new faceoff system, new quick dekes and the ability to score amazing goals even while lying on the ice.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

The all-new Hockey Ultimate Team brings Online Dynasty play to the EA SPORTS NHL franchise for the first time ever. In the demo, players will be able to pick up a starter pack of cards to build their Ultimate Hockey Team. Take your new team to the ice and play against either the Canadian Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, or the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. Play and win games in the demo with your Ultimate Team and earn up to two additional packs in the full version of NHL 11, when it is released on September 7, 2010.

The demo will also feature an interactive tutorial that will allow those new to the franchise to learn the controls, and allow long-time fans to practice some of the new controls in the game, including Faceoffs.

Introducing the EAUHL Posted by AndyP on 08/05 at 03:40 in Hockey
Or in case you didn't already know, it means "EA Ultimate Hockey League"! In answering some questions about this new mode, not least why they didn't just create an online version of their offline dynasty mode, EA has published a new blog offering more details about the thinking behind this new mode.

Let me start by saying that we heard all of the feedback and read all of the wishlists after NHL 10 hit the shelves. We know that our fans (ourselves included) want an online dynasty so Andy, Litty and myself started to brainstorm the best way possible to take online dynasties to completely new level. Our goal was to make the BIGGEST ONLINE DYNASTY MODE EVER (The working name for this mode up until February was the Global Online Dynasty but we figured the acronym might be a bit of a sticking issue so we ended up changing it).

Jonathan Toews is the face of NHL 11 Posted by AndyP on 06/15 at 16:21 in Hockey
The captain of the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, Jonathon Toews, will be the cover personality for NHL 11. At least, that's what we assume - no official announcement has yet been made, but all signs are pointing in this direction after a page appeared on ea.com that was later removed featured Toews prominently indicating his role as the cover athlete. We'll update as news breaks officially.

ESPN previews NHL 11 Posted by AndyP on 06/09 at 16:39 in Hockey
ESPN Videogames have posted up an article titled "Five things to know about NHL 11".

"You can break a stick, and it's the physics determining when that stick breaks, and then that stick is on the ice and it's a live object on the ice interacting with skates, sticks, and the puck. So you can be coming down with a 2-on-1 with a broken stick on the ice and when you pass it across, the puck hits that broken stick and breaks up the play.

Canadian Hockey League comes to NHL 11 Posted by AndyP on 05/23 at 05:18 in Hockey
Widely rumored for several weeks, EA have now confirmed that NHL 11 will include teams from the Canadian Hockey League (CHL).
EA SPORTS NHL 11 to Include All Teams and Players from the WHL, OHL and QMJHL

BRANDON, Manitoba–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) in association with Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced a four year agreement that will see the league included in EA SPORTS™ NHL® products. The three regional leagues that make up the CHL, including the Western Hockey League (WHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), will all have their teams and players represented in EA SPORTS NHL 11 when it becomes available in retail stores this September.

Representing 51 Canadian and nine American teams with players aged 16-20 the CHL is the top development league in the world and the number one provider of talent to the NHL. 47% of all players selected in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft came from CHL teams. The 2010 NHL Entry Draft could mark the fourth straight year where a CHL player is selected first overall, with Tyler Seguin of the Plymouth Whalers and Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires representing the top two ranked players by NHL Central Scouting.

“The CHL is very excited to partner with an industry leader like EA SPORTS to create a brand new way for CHL fans to associate with their favorite CHL teams and players,” said David Branch, President, CHL. “This opportunity also provides EA SPORTS fans around the world the ability to learn more about the next wave of NHL stars as they compete in the best development league in the world.”

“It’s exciting to have the CHL integrated into our game for the first time,” said Jordan Edelstein, VP of Marketing, EA SPORTS. “Their inclusion will make NHL 11 the most definitive and complete hockey experience available.”

Four of the last five players to be featured on the cover of EA SPORTS NHL Series games are CHL graduates including Patrick Kane, Dion Phaneuf, Eric Staal and Vincent Lecavalier.

The licensing agreement between EA SPORTS and the CHL allows the following to be included in NHL 11:

* Ability to play with all 60 teams that make up the CHL
* Names and Likenesses of players that are on the rosters of a CHL team
* Mastercard Memorial Cup
* CHL new RBK Edge Jersey design in NHL 11
* WHL, OHL and QMJHL logos and league structures

The CHL integration in NHL 11 will tie to several modes in the game, including Be A Pro, Be A GM, Tournament Mode, Season Mode and Playoff Mode.

The EA SPORTS NHL franchise has won 22 Sports Game of the Year awards over the past three years. This year the NHL 11 franchise begins a new era with gameplay innovations that are set to deliver the most realistic, accurate and exciting representation of NHL hockey to date.

NHL 11 will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system with an MSRP of $59.99. It is developed by EA Canada in Burnaby, B.C. The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB or PEGI.

NHL 2k takes a year off Posted by AndyP on 03/03 at 20:15 in Hockey
According to a report on Kotaku, "the [NHL 2k] series is on hiatus this year in order to come back stronger with NHL 2K12".

We're doing that because we're so committed to competing that the team needs a breather," explained Feder during the Take-Two first quarter financial results conference call. " The following year we will come back a lot stronger. We have an intention to win and we're going to maximize the opportunity

Disappointing news for this year then, if you are a 2k hockey fan, but at least the series isn't dead and the competition to the highly successful EA Sports NHL series isn't completely dead just yet. Whether this will change within the next year, who knows, but let's hope 2k are true to their word.

Tuner set v1.03 released for NHL 10 Posted by AndyP on 01/28 at 15:03 in Hockey
You can download tuner set v1.03 for NHL 10 now on Xbox Live and PlayStation 3. Details are :

The major objective of the tuning update is to get more goal-scoring variation and loosen up goal scoring. There is now more variety in CPU goalie positioning as well as a bunch of other tweaks to how goalies position, how fast they can move and accelerate, rebound control, screen effects, reaction speeds, and more.

For online the duration of the post-whistle time has been reduced, and a few gameplay exploits have been reduced.

Beyond getting more varied goal scoring we wanted to address a number of other issues that have been identified by the community and that we are able to improve through a tuning update. Because a significant number of changes were made in this update we will be paying close attention to how things play out in the coming weeks and responding with additional fine tuning as necessary.

All online games use the new tuning set. After downloading the update offline games can use the new tuning update by switching the “Tuner Set Version” under Gameplay Settings/General to either Latest (which is the default) or V1.03. You can also switch to earlier versions if you prefer to keep things the same as they have been.

Highlights of the update include:
-Increased variation in goalie positioning
-Rebounds directed further to the side of the net
-Small reduction in goalie reaction times, top speed and acceleration
-Increase in screen effect on goalies (online only)
-Reduced post-whistle time (online only)
-Decreased effectiveness of the pass block (LB/L1) at taking the puck away
-Increased frequency of deflections (EASHL/OTP only)
-Prevent CPU defenders from being easily lured into hooking penalties in EASHL/OTP games
-Improved ability to intercept weak passes
-For EASHL/OTP, the range of the some of the attribute effects has been increased
