So 2k have done a 180 on their decision to omit the check swing from MLB 2k10. Or was it all just a rumor to get us talking ? In a new blog published on the 2k Sports website today, the following announcement was made as part of a much larger blog post dedicated to the whole pitching and hitting duel that 2k is hyping up as a key part of the game this year.
"Now, I know what you are thinking... if this is so realistic, then why have I read from recent previews that there might not be a check swing in Major League Baseball 2K10? Before we get into check-swing talk, let me clarify that the check-swing is in fact part of an upcoming patch."
Good news for fans of 2k baseball... |

| First Madden 11 blog at Super Bowl halftime |
EA Sports have announced that the first Madden 11 blog will, for the second year in succession, be posted at halftime of the Super Bowl. Here are the details in a post made by Ian Cummings on the EA website. Note that the video will only be available to watch from halftime...
As a team we all spent countless hours working with the community over the course of Madden NFL 10 through blogs, forums, Twitter, podcasts, interviews, radio shows, and many other avenues, so we look to continue that momentum this year and keep up the interaction with our fans for the coming year.
From the hiring of Mark Turmell (designer/creator of such massive hits as Smash TV, NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, etc) to the announcement of the fan-chosen cover athlete (via Doritos), there has been a decent amount of Madden-related news swirling around. Knowing this, we wanted to use this first blog as a way to communicate some information out to our fans to keep them in the loop with how things are shaping up for Madden NFL 11, and do so in video format so you don't have to read through 10 pages of information.
The video blog below will be released right here, at halftime of the Super Bowl. It will feature a few members of the team as well as some thoughts on Madden NFL 10, Madden NFL 11, and our pick for Super Bowl winners. There are plenty of other people out there that make this game great but these are some of the folks that you may be hearing from throughout the year.
Before you watch the video, I want to be very clear that our vision for the Madden NFL franchise hasn't changed. I know some folks expressed concern that the hiring of Mark Turmell equated to turning Madden NFL 11 into Madden NFL Blitz, but things couldn't be farther from the truth. We are all 100% focused on creating the most true-to life NFL simulation experience as possible - and that's always been the goal (a goal set forth by John Madden himself 20+ years ago). We set a clear vision statement last year and it still holds true for us - "Everything you see on Sundays, see it in Madden NFL". We want to accurately deliver an amazing NFL experience in our game, whether it's through simulating the feel of a broadcast, re-creating the immersion you feel sitting at the 50 yard line at your favorite team's stadium, or making you feel like you're suiting up and putting on your pads again. Madden NFL 10 took great strides in this area but we all know there is more to accomplish. Our best bet towards reaching those goals is staying the course and continuing on our progress that we made last cycle.
We really look forward to kicking up the interaction and information in the coming months. Thanks for reading (and watching), and feel free to hop on over to the official Madden forums at halftime as well to discuss anything related to this blog. Hope you enjoy the game!

| Backbreaker development blog |
| It seems like we've been reading about the development of the "Natual Motion" engine and the football game being developed using that engine, called "Backbreaker", forever. Now that the game is apparently close to release (listed as Spring, 2010) more definitive details are beginning to emerge and this development diary posted on Gamespot features "dev team members talking about the camera system, their version of motion capture with the Euphoria Engine, and more"... |

| MLB 10: The Show - Online Season Leagues |
Sony knew that their online leagues were a disappointment last year and have set about this time around to focus on redeveloping them into something much better. In the blog update, Jason Villa (a Producer on the MLB 10 The Show team) explains how.
Personally, I'd have liked to see some kind of MLB Network presentation (even if it were only replicated in the style of the menu and stat screens), with custom captured photos as part of a daily summary (rather than that outdated style of newspaper) but I'm probably being a little nit-picky... |

| Introducing Joe Mauer, MLB 10 cover athlete |
The Official PlayStation Blog has posted up an interview with MLB 10 The Show cover athlete Joe Mauer, catcher for the Minnesota Twins.
"This week, Minnesota Twins catcher and AL MVP Joe Mauer was in the motion capture studio to, um, run around in spandex with a glove and bat. The results will be apparent when the game hits early next month. In the meantime, Mauer took time to chat with us about his incredible 2009 season, what it's like to show up on the cover of a game, and how some Major Leaguers use games (like The Show) to scout out opponents in advance. Oh, and working with our (M)VP, Kevin Butler."... |

| Mike Wang leaves Electronic Arts |
In a statement posted on the NBA Live blog, EA have confirmed that Mike Wang is no longer working on the NBA Live franchise. This announcement followed an earlier report posted on ESPN where Mike described in more detail his reasons for leaving EA.
Wang joined the NBA Live team last year in a highly publicised departure from 2k Sports and was front and center of the marketing campaign for NBA Live 10. His departure represents a significant loss to the EA NBA Live development team and might indicate a shift away from the simulation style of gameplay to something else.
Here is the announcement in full :
"Mike Wang has left EA Canada and the NBA LIVE development team and will be heading back to the United States. I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank Mike for his contributions during the 18 months that he was working on NBA LIVE. His vision and leadership within gameplay on NBA LIVE 10 was part of the reason why that game was critically reviewed as having taken a tremendous leap in quality and at least as good as any other basketball game on the market.
Our goals for NBA LIVE ... |
